Municipal Development in Lebanon: A Survey Research and Critical Review

A book representing the latest study of Lebanon’s municipal experience during the first three years following the 1998 postwar municipal elections. Based on a survey that covered 350 municipalities (around half of the municipalities in Lebanon) and on 25 interviews with elected local officials, the study highlights the primary administrative, judicial, financial, political and social obstacles facing municipalities in Lebanon. In addition, the book highlights steps to be undertaken to improve municipal development and presents the prospective of development from the local actors’ point of view.
