Making Aid to Jordan and Lebanon Work

With the Syrian crisis now in its seventh year, countries neighboring Syria have been significantly impacted by spillovers related to the conflict, including an influx of refugees that has in many instances exacerbated already existing ills in these countries. In light of this, the international community continues to extend foreign assistance to Lebanon and Jordan in the form of humanitarian aid and development financing. In order for aid to be effective, it must be transparent, results-based, and focused on development.

This Oxfam briefing note synthesizes challenges Lebanon and Jordan are facing in capitalizing on aid and highlights policy recommendations that could improve the quality of and method by which aid is extended to both these countries. In partnership with Oxfam, LCPS analyzed the case of Lebanon and Phenix Center examined the case of Jordan.
