Arab Parliamentary Development

This symposium for Arab Legislatures aimed to contribute to building the capacity of parliaments in the Arab countries by better understanding their current functioning and the challenges they face in their transition towards more representative and effective institutions of legislation, governance and accountability. It also set out a path for future work on parliamentary development in the Arab World through a creative and lively debate and discussion among a selected group of Arab parliamentarians and experts on parliamentary affairs.

This symposium was organized in collaboration with the Regional Bureau for Arab States of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and with the cooperation of the Lebanese parliament in the context of the Regional Programme on Governance in the Arab States. The Arab Parliamentary Union (APU) and the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) contributed to the preparatory process in identifying the themes and format of the meeting.
