January 01, 2017 Confronting the Sectarian Myth
This project seeks to confront the dominant sectarian narrative in Lebanon and provide data and a model of analysis that is applicable to the broader Middle East. This includes looking at sectarianism as it pertains to individuals’ needs, attitudes, and behavior on issues ranging from gender equality to socioeconomic considerations. This also includes the relationship between sectarianism and local service provision in Lebanon, including education, health, job opportunities, and security.
Outcomes:
- Focus groups with citizens from across the country
- National survey
- Interviews with key stakeholders particularly religious leaders, media, and speeches
- A workshop to present the collected data, raise awareness, provide a space for dialogue
- A book relaying the results of the project
In collaboration with the United States Institute of Peace (USIP)
