The Lebanese Parliament: Dynamics and Assessment

A research project initiated in 1995 in an attempt to study the parliamentary decision-making process in Lebanon. The project focused first on the external dynamics of parliament, including relations between the executive and the legislative branch and the parliament's role according to the new constitution. Second, it embarked on an examination of the internal dynamics aimed to study the organization and structure of the parliament, the way decisions are made, the funding of the parliament, and how parliamentary coalitions are formed and how parliamentary commissions work. The project extended to involve a number of workshops, conferences, interviews, and other forms of research. The materials from this research were published in 1997 in a 191 page monograph on the role and efficiency of the parliament entitled The Lebanese Parliament 1992-1996.
