January 01, 2001 Municipal Development in Lebanon (MRC)
This was a project to conduct a multi-faceted feasibility study to assess the need for the establishment of a Municipal Resource Center (MRC) in Lebanon. The objectives of the study were to identify the main challenges faced by municipalities, pinpoint their needs, determine how receptive municipal officials were to establishing an MRC in Lebanon, and prepare a programmatic municipal proposal. Field research consisted of four components: implementation of a national survey, conducting 28 in-depth interviews, holding four focus groups with municipal officials, and organizing a workshop engaging municipal officials, researchers, academics, and experts with focuses on municipal development in providing feedback to research and discussing ideas for design, functions and programs that would be undertaken by a potential Municipal Development Program which would empower municipalities and build their capacities to serve their communities.
This research project was implemented with support from and in collaboration with the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
