January 01, 2017 Securing a Place for Lebanese Labor in the Petroleum Sector
LCPS undertook this project to map the Lebanese labor movement as well as identify the prospects it could play in the nascent oil and gas sector. The anticipation of discovering commercial petroleum deposits in the Lebanese offshore has been accompanied by expectations of economic boom, removal of public debt, a reduction in energy bills, and more generally, investment and development. However, progress in establishing the Lebanese Oil and Gas sector does not suggest labor is on track to recognize such benefits. Accordingly, this project analyzed both the labor market in Lebanon and advocated in favor of a coalition of actors that could seek better benefits than labor organizations.
