January 01, 2017 Promoting Stability in Light of the Refugee Crisis
This project examined and analyzed the evolution of refugee politics at the national, political party, and local level in Lebanon. LCPS studied periods throughout the Syrian crisis, including assessing past experiences of deportation and refoulement of refugees to “safe zones.” Since the crisis began in 2011, Lebanese political parties and host societies have developed various perspectives on the Syrian refugee presence that are influenced by the historical perspectives of Syrian-Lebanese relations. These perspectives were studied as part of this project, and used in the development of sustainable strategies outlined in a 10,000-word report on humanitarian actors who are working on the return of displaced Syrian refugees to “safe zones” in Syria.
