An Informed Perspective on the Syrian Refugees Crisis

On May 4th and 5th 2016, the Lebanese Center for Policy Studies and International Development Research Center held a workshop on the Syrian Refugee Crisis titled “Launching a Homegrown Development Agenda to Address the Syrian Refugee Crisis”.

Among the government officials, experts, and scholars in attendance was Dr. Dawn Chatty, an Emeritus University Professor in Anthropology and Forced Migration and former director of the Refugee Studies Centre in the Department of International Development at the University of Oxford, UK. LCPS was fortunate to speak with Dr. Chatty on the sidelines of the workshop about refugees’ historical ties to host countries, how governments’ policies have affected the lives of refugees, the implications of displaced children not receiving an adequate education, and what can be learned from the experiences of Iraqi and Palestinian refugees.
